Class Overview

Is your 10-15 year old interested in learning more about woodworking, increasing their confidence, and practicing hands-on skills? Need something (literally) constructive for them to do during Spring Break? You’ve found a great program!

In our 5-day Intro to Woodworking course students will each make their own wooden mallet, using a variety of hand tools and woodworking techniques. 

Keen for more? This program feeds perfectly into our second week of Spring Break Programming: Intro to Power Tools!

What THey’ll learn

  • Wood Shop Safety

  • Layout & Measurement

  • Basic wood joinery (wedged mortise & tenon)

  • Learn wood types: hardwoods vs softwoods and applications

  • Hand tool use (Draw Knife, Spokeshave, Drill, Combination Square, Japanese Pullsaw, Hand Plane, Rasps)

  • Wood finishing
