Summer WoodWorking Camp

Age: 10-14 years

Date: August 19th - 23rd
Time: 9am-12pm

Start your woodworking journey at Create!

Participants will make a traditional indigenous bent wood box with guidance from woodworker Matthew Williams, our guest from Squamish Nation. Other projects include making a bird house using our laser cutter and other small creative projects designed to orientate and introduce woodworking skills.

The camp will be led by Jason Bigelow, who is motivated by giving the next generation the practical skills inspiration they need to thrive. He’s particularly passionate about supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth and those at risk.

Class is limited to 8 students as we have two instructors teaching this week. There are no pre-requisites, but your kid should be able to follow safety instructions, and be careful with sharp objects.

Please note: while this course is all skill levels, you know your kids best. 2.5 hours a day for five days is a LOT of focus and a lot of hard work. If your kiddo is bouncy and distracted, a one-day, after school or multi-week class is a better fit. We're all about meeting kids where they are, but that also means putting them in the classes that they will have the best chance of enjoyment and success!

Snacks & Breaks: We encourage you to send snacks and refreshments as it’s much easier to be creative when you have fuel for the brain! We will break for snacks and stretching!

Learning Objectives:

- Learn to use woodworking tools and make new friends in a safe, fun, and educational environment.

- Build confidence.

- Customize projects to fit style with artistic flair.

- Ignite creativity and learn valuable skills

- Enhance problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills.

We will send out get-to-know-you forms before the start of class to learn more about your kid and their needs!
