Introduction to Spinning Yarn

Drop Spindle 101

Date: August 17th

Duration: 2 hours, from 10 am to 12 pm

This 2 hour class is an introduction to spinning your own yarn using a drop spindle - one of the oldest methods of making yarn! Everything you learn when spinning with a drop spindle is applicable to a spinning wheel, so this is a great first step. Registration includes your own wooden drop spindle from Fibre Culture and enough fibre to get you started.

This class may be held outside if the weather is good - more information to follow!

Learning Objectives:

- What makes fluff into yarn (hint: it's all about the twist)

- The "draft and park" method

- The qualities of different types of fibre and how to choose

- How to finish hand-spun yarn

- Next steps in your spinning practice (hint: buy a sheep, because you'll be addicted)

Instructor Bio:

This workshop is hosted by Sarah Chambers - a fibre artist who loves to experiment with spinning, knitting, weaving and more.
