Class Overview
Over three engaging sessions, this introductory course will guide you through the fundamentals of wheel-throwing and glazing. Perfect for beginners, you’ll learn to shape and craft your own ceramic creations from start to finish. This class teaches the basics of wheel throwing, including wedging clay, centering, making walls, trimming, and decorating and glazing finished pieces.
What you’ll learn
Session 1 & 2 (Sequential Weeks):
Dive into the exciting world of wheel throwing! You’ll learn and practice:
Wedging clay to prepare it for the wheel
Centering clay with confidence and ease
Shaping the base and building walls to create beautiful forms
Experimenting with shapes and even adding handles (for mugs)
Properly wiring your pieces off the wheel
Take your time to experiment, refine your technique, and explore your creative vision under the guidance of an experienced instructor.
Session 3 (Final Week)
After giving your pieces time to dry and be bisque-fired, you’ll return to the studio to glaze your creations. Learn glazing techniques to add colour and character to your work, making each piece uniquely yours.
