About Us:

Create Makerspace is an arts and culture hub in Squamish featuring a fully equipped shop for wood work, metal work, textiles, pottery and jewelry. We have been open since January 2024 offering memberships, classes, studio rentals and a design & fabrication service. Our mission is to create a well-equipped, accessible, inclusive community hub that makers, artists, and innovators can use for business, recreation and education. Position Overview:

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Community Manager to join our makerspace team. The Community Manager will play a crucial role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. This person will be responsible for creating a welcoming and collaborative environment, organizing events and workshops, and providing support to members and visitors.

What you’ll be doing:

1. Community Engagement

  • Build and nurture a strong sense of community among makerspace members.

  • Welcome new members and introduce them to the space, its resources, and guidelines.

  • Act as a liaison between members, staff, and volunteers, facilitating open communication. This includes responding to emails and messages on behalf of the business.

2. Event Coordination

  • Plan and facilitate a variety of classes, events, workshops, and activities to promote skill sharing, creativity, and networking.

  • Collaborate with instructors to facilitate exciting educational programs.

3. Marketing and Promotion

  • Promote the makerspace within the local community and online through social media, our website, and other marketing channels.

  • Create weekly or bi-weekly newsletter communications, which will be akin to running a blog.

4. Administrative Tasks

  • Manage member registration, payments, and documentation.

  • Maintain records of events, attendance, and feedback for continuous improvement.

5. Member Support

  • Provide assistance and guidance to members on the proper use of equipment and tools. Prior knowledge of tool usage is not required. You will be trained on the tools as things progress.

  • Help members troubleshoot project challenges and offer technical advice.

  • Someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who loves being a connector.

  • Someone who is super on it, has a great attention to detail, and loves building organizational systems.

  • A bright and happy person who will be a warm welcome to makerspace users at the front desk.

  • Social media experience and marketing skills are critical.

  • A rock who can keep their cool even with lots on the go and in challenging situations.

  • Someone who has a passion for making and a strong interest in the maker community.

  • Experience in event planning and coordination is definitely a plus.

  • Familiarity with makerspace equipment and tools is also useful.

  • You should have some knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in a workshop environment.

  • Strong computer skills for managing membership databases and online communications.
