Class Overview
Take your woodturning beyond the basics and start creating beautiful, functional wooden bowls. This Level 2 course builds on the techniques you learned in Wood Lathe Level 1, introducing faceplate and chuck turning to shape larger, more complex forms. You’ll explore how to refine bowl profiles, hollow interiors, and achieve smooth, polished finishes, giving your pieces a professional look. By the end of the class, you’ll have the hands-on experience and confidence to turn your own bowls independently, opening the door to more creative and challenging projects.
What You’ll Learn
New lathe terminology and tool functions (chucks, faceplates, tenons, mortises)
How to mount and secure bowl blanks using chucks and faceplates
Techniques for shaping the exterior and hollowing the interior of bowls
Tool control, positioning, and finishing for clean, professional results
Sanding and polishing methods for smooth, finished surfaces
Safety practices and expectations specific to bowl turning
