Class Overview
Wood Tools 1 is your first step into woodworking—a hands-on introduction to the essential hand and power tools used in the shop. Through guided practice, you’ll learn how to safely operate key tools, set up your workspace, and build confidence for future projects. No prior experience is needed!
What you’ll learn
Shop Orientation – Locations of safety equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid, exits) and understanding workspaces, communal areas, and storage.
Tool Safety & Proper Use – Hands-on training with:
Drill Press – Accurate hole drilling with safety techniques
Table Saw – Making precise rip and cross cuts while avoiding kickback
Compound Miter Saw – Cutting material to length and angles safely
Table Router – Shaping and trimming edges with control
Band Saw – Cutting straight and curved paths effectively
Bench Sander – Smoothing and shaping edges safely
Brad Nailer – Proper technique for finishing nails in woodworking
Hand Router – Freehand trimming and shaping edges
Hand Drill & Impact Driver – Drilling, screwing, and torque adjustment
Palm Sanders & Belt Sanders – Finishing surfaces and removing material efficiently
Circular Saw with Track – Precision cutting of large material sheets
