Introduction to Natural Dyeing

Eco printing and mordant painting 

A workshop by Sobremesa

Date: May 11th

Duration: 3 hours, from 10 am to 1 pm - including a 30-minute break for tea and cake!

What you will learn:

  • Introduction to natural dye techniques and a foundation to develop your dyeing

  • Two natural dye techniques:

    • eco-printing / bundle dyeing with spring flowers

    • mordant painting with plant dye baths

What you will get from this course:

  • Two finished organic cotton bandanas - can also be used as wall-hanging pieces if you prefer!

  • Take home dye instructions for continuing your practice

  • A copy of Sobremesa Magazine Issue I. Fruit & Flowers

  • Sobremesa cake and herbal tea (send us a message for any dietary requirements/preferences)

Instructor Bio:

This workshop is hosted by Sobremesa. Sobremesa is an independent B.C. based publication that uses recipes to tell stories about connection to landscapes. Sobremesa is a collaboration between Maria, a natural dye artist from Vernon, and Kat, a journalist and multimedia artist based in Squamish.
