Design & Sew Your Own Everyday Adventure Bag
Class Overview
Meet the Bestie Bag — your new cute sidekick for everyday errands and life’s greatest adventures! In this hands-on textiles workshop you’ll construct a medium-sized Bestie Bag, a banana-shaped carry-all with plenty of space for all your on-the-go necessities (and then some!). You’ll work with pattern pieces, select fabrics and hardware, and build a bag that’s both functional and stylish.
This class focuses specifically on the everyday wear version of the Bestie Bag — perfect for daily use, cross-body wear, or as a go-to adventure companion.
What You’ll Learn
How to work with bag-making materials (medium to heavyweight fabrics, interfacing, webbing, zippers)
How to interpret and cut pattern pieces efficiently
Sewing techniques for bag construction including seam allowance control and zipper installation
Finishing techniques for clean, durable interiors and edges
What’s Included
Access to sewing machines (domestic & industrial) and necessary textile tools
Bestie Bag pattern and hardware (zippers, webbing, interfacing)
A selection of fabrics to choose from
Guidance and instruction throughout construction
what to bring + Personal Safety
Fabric for outer shell and lining (recommended details sent after registration)
Closed-toed shoes
All long hair tied back, no loose clothing or jewelry
Students are welcome to bring their own fabric if they choose: Recommended fabrics are those with structure, medium to heavyweight wovens: denim, canvas, twill, heavyweight nylon, ripstop. For the lining, lightweight wovens are best: poplin, cotton lawn, quilting cotton. Please get 1 metre of each the outer and lining fabrics.
Prerequisites
Intermediate – This class is designed for students who are comfortable with a sewing machine, basic stitches, and textile room tools. Prior sewing experience (such as Textiles Level 1) is recommended before registering if you are newer to machine sewing.
