5 SESSION CLASS

after school robotics foundations

Discover the world of robotics after school!

Class Overview

In this hands-on 5-week program, students will explore the fundamentals of robotics by building and programming their own working robot. Over five sessions, participants will learn how robots sense, think, and act—using coding, electronics, and simple mechanical design to bring their creations to life.

In a small group setting, students will experiment with sensors, control movement, and problem-solve real-world challenges as their robots navigate a physical environment. Throughout the course, they’ll learn how to complete different tasks before putting everything together in a final challenge to follow lines and stop for obstacles.

What You’ll Learn

  • The basics of how robots work (sense → think → act)

  • Intro to Arduino microcontrollers and simple coding

  • How to build and wire a robot chassis

  • Programming movement and motor control

  • Using sensors (ultrasonic + IR) to interact with the environment

  • Problem-solving through hands-on experimentation

What’s Included

  • Classroom robotics kit is included for use during the program.

    • Students may choose to purchase their kit and take their robot home for an additional $80.

what to bring + Personal Safety

For your own personal safety during this class, please:

  • Closed-toe shoes required

  • Avoid loose clothing and tie back long hair

  • Notebook & pencil (optional for notes)

Prerequisites

NNo experience with robotics needed! We recommend having some knowledge of essential computer skills: opening and saving a file, copying and pasting text, and using a mouse.
